Thermal power systems generate electricity by rotating turbines and generators with the steam from water heated by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas in boilers. Thermal power generation has a role to ensure a stable power supply because it can control the power generation output by managing the heat energy in response to power consumption that varies to seasons or the time of day. A conventional thermal power generation system generates electricity by rotating steam turbines and generators with the steam from water heated in boilers in which fossil fuels including coal, oil and natural gas are burned.

    In comparison with combined cycle power generation, conventional thermal power generation can use a wider variety of fuels from inexpensive coal to clean natural gas. A combined-cycle power generation system generates power by combining two or more generating systems. The current mainstream type is to combine steam turbines with gas turbines and to also use waste heat that comes out of the gas turbines.

    This combination of two power generation cycles increases the efficiency of the plant, resulting in an eco-friendly system with low fuel consumption and low CO 2 emissions. Compared to conventional thermal power generation, combined-cycle power generation systems can quickly start achieving an immediate response to power demand.
